Mini Sculpts is a series of exploration of color, transparency, connections, construction, and deconstruction. These modular pieces are acrylic plexiglass pieces that I laser cut into shapes that I created. There are only three different shapes, but many different variations once composition and color are added into the picture.
Zine:
I created a small 4"x4" zine containing images of these sculptures and exploring the themes displayed in them. I thought that just printing them on paper wouldn't be quite enough to show my ideas, so I printed the vector shapes on transparency film and used those pages to lay on top of the photos. This made it a little more interactive for the reader, allowing them to change how they view the photos. It also plays into my themes of construction and deconstruction. The vector shapes are the pieces deconstructed, and the photos of the sculptures are what could come from construction.
I also created a package for the zine which resembles a box that a deck of cards might come in. For the box, as well as the front and back covers of the zine, I printed black ink on black paper. This creates an interesting texture. Printing black on black makes it so that the ink can only be seen from certain angles in light, encouraging interactivity with the viewer, slowing readability, and playing again into the theme of transparency.
